Areas of Specialism and Expertise
Rona is a partner in our Health and Safety Division and recognised by Chambers UK as a leader in the field of health and safety law. Well known for her expertise in relation to offshore accidents, she regularly represents employers and insurers in relation to health and safety prosecutions, fatal accident inquiries, and environmental prosecutions. She also provides advice and guidance to employers and individuals with management responsibilities in relation to compliance.
Her recent contentious work includes:-
- Gas explosion at hotel: advice in relation to HSE investigation (2009)
- Lifting operation on vessel, leading to serious injuries, prosecution (2009)
- Bourbon Dolphin Anchor Handling Supply Tug capsize, leading to multiple fatalities, dealing with inquiry in Norway and HSE investigation (2007-to date)
- FPSO lifting operation, fatal accident, prosecution (2007-08)
- Forklift truck accident, fatal accident inquiry (2007)
- Drill floor accident, serious injuries, prosecution (2007)
- Hydrocarbon release & fire on offshore installation, prosecution (2007)
- Brent Bravo fatal accident inquiry (2005/06)
- Braer: Pollution claims by the Shetland Salmon Farmers’ Association and Shetland Fisherman’s Association.
Non-contentious work includes:-
Series of training seminars to board members and senior managers at various organisations on roles and responsibilities in light of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 and the Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008; provision of advice in relation to safety management systems and procedures and general compliance requirements

Rona is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Personal Injury Law. She is a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association and a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).
Co-author of “The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007”, published by W.Green & Sons Ltd, 2008.
Offshore Certification
Rona holds the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) and Certificate of Medical Fitness.
