Areas of Specialism and Expertise
Margaret is a partner in the Firm’s Employment Division. She is recognised by the Legal Directory Chambers UK as a leader in her field. Margaret first joined the firm in 1990 and was appointed as a partner in 1998.
Margaret’s main area of interest and expertise is in the preparation for and subsequent conduct of Employment Tribunals. She appears in Employment Tribunals across Scotland and in England on a regular basis and also appears before the Employment Appeal Tribunal. As a qualified Solicitor Advocate she is eligible to appear before the Court of Session.
Margaret has recently acted in a wide range of disputes, including unfair dismissal, alleged discrimination on the grounds of race, disability discrimination and in a case generated by a union seeking representation within one of her client companies. Margaret acts for a wide range of organisations including FirstGroup plc, Acergy UK limited and Voluntary Service Aberdeen. She is actively involved in providing advice in respect of the management of contentious disputes to all clients, including the provision of training, debriefs and lessons learnt following Tribunals.
While specialising in the provision of advice to and representation on behalf of clients in the contentious sector, Margaret also has expertise in non-contentious matters. She provides employment law advice to the firms corporate clients who may be involved in business disposals and is regularly asked to draft policies and procedures for clients. Margaret acted for the Noble group of companies during their divestment of their platform business in the North Sea.
