Elaine is head of our Planning & Environmental Law Division and features in Chambers UK - A Client`s Guide to the Legal Profession as a leader in her field.  Elaine was ranked in second place, along with two other lawyers, in the 2007 poll of Scottish planning solicitors conducted by Planning Magazine, the Journal of the Royal Town Planning Institute.  Colleague Bruce Smith was ranked in first place. Working closely with colleagues in our Property Services and Construction Divisions, she provides practical advice on all aspects of planning and environmental issues including:-

• Planning applications (lodging and progressing with planning authorities);
• Appeals to the Scottish Ministers and Local Review Boards;
• Written submission, hearings and public inquiry appeals to the Scottish Ministers, including advocacy;
• Development Plans (lodging objections and conduct of case at examinations/hearings);
• Negotiation of planning agreements;
• Compulsory purchase;
• Renewable energy;
• Environmental assessments;
• Advice on environmental issues arising on acquisition/disposal of companies/businesses (including contaminated land);
• Applications for “pollution prevention” consents and related appeals to the Scottish Ministers
