People with breast cancer can find out about their employment rights and financial support that may be available to them at a special event in Aberdeen.
The free talk is being held at the Marywell Training and Conference Centre from 10am to 3pm on Thursday, September 3.
The first session will be led by two MacMillan Cancer Support benefits advisers who will outline the different sources of support and how to access them.
While specific individual advice will not be available, the talk will cover a wide range of topics including travel costs when attending hospital and entitlement to benefits for patients and carers.
After a free light lunch attendees will be able to find out more about employment issues following a diagnosis of breast cancer.
Linda Beedie, a senior solicitor specialising in employment law with Aberdeen-based commercial law firm Paull & Williamsons LLP, will be taking part in a special “Ask the Panel” session alongside representative from the Citizens Advice Bureau and Jobcentre Plus.
As well as being an experienced employment lawyer, Linda has personal knowledge of the issues affecting those with breast cancer, after being diagnosed with the disease herself in 2005.
“I’ve experienced a vast range of breast cancer treatments so I fully understand the problems and concerns that people might have over the need to take time off, returning to work, or when looking for a new job,” she said..
