Leading commercial law firm, Paull & Williamsons, continues to strengthen its employment law division with a new service that supports employers of overseas nationals.
Linda Beedie, an employment lawyer with Paull & Williamsons, is the only Immigration Law Practitioners Association (ILPA) member registered in Aberdeen and joins only seven others in Scotland. Her membership successfully complements the firm’s development of the new resource for businesses and HR professionals, particularly in the oil and gas industry, who employ workers from around the world.
Linda commented: “Our employment law division has historically handled occasional work permit applications for employers, however last year there were sweeping changes to the law in relation to migrant workers, which include a requirement for employers to apply for a licence enabling them to act as a sponsor for employees from overseas. North-east businesses have to deal with a myriad of issues in respect of overseas nationals, many of whom are highly skilled and who are an integral part of their organisations.
“In industries as diverse as oil and gas – including businesses employing offshore workers on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf - catering, fishing, agriculture and higher education, employers and service providers need to be aware of how the legislation affects them.”
Linda is delivering non-chargeable lunch sessions later this month, looking at the new regime in practice, the changes since implementation, its application to the offshore sector, emerging case law, specific examples and the issues arising within the wider employment law context.
Those wishing to attend a session on 27 August at Paull & Williamsons’ Union Plaza offices between 12.30pm and 2pm should contact trainingsolutions@paull-williamsons.co.uk.
